Interagency for Market Control (DIMEA)
According to Law 4712/2020 (A ‘146) DIMEA’s scope is to address illicit trade (including e-commerce), counterfeiting of products, as well as ensure the proper functioning of the internal market and the provision of services.
DIMEA’s mission:
-To develop a common strategy to tackle illicit trade, including IP rights infringements,
-To ensure the implementation of the relevant legislation for the handling of goods and services in the market, and
-To safeguard the orderly and legitimate functioning of the market in the interests of consumer health and safety and of healthy entrepreneurship.
The recent Law 4753/2020 (A ‘227) expands DIMEA’s scope, since it is designated as the competent supervisory authority for the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2019/1150; namely it will supervise compliance of providers of online mediation services and of the online search engines with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2019/1150.
It is worth noting that DIMEA, along with other public authorities, is competent for monitoring compliance of businesses with coronavirus measures.
